We are a medium-sized – independent – seaport forwarder with headquarters in Hamburg. But BACKHAUS has also had its own branches in Rotterdam, Antwerp and Bremen for many years.
BACKHAUS & CO. was founded in 1921 by Carl Backhaus in Hamburg and thus looks back on nearly 100 years of history.
Over the decades, contacts and partnerships have been expanded to the Far East, especially Eastern Europe. As a longtime permanent member of “FIATA”, BACKHAUS & CO. always offered reliable and highly qualified service.
For many years our focus has been on worldwide import and export, as well as professional warehousing. Unlike other seaport carriers, our trained forwarding agents are based in close proximity to the goods. We rely on our own assets and can offer our customers all the services of modern warehouse logistics –in Hamburg alone we have more than 60,000 m² available land area. All of our employees are qualified and experienced logistics and forwarding agents. Also in our own warehouses – close to the Port of Hamburg – only trained and knowledgeable warehouse specialists are employed. Your goods are in good hands.
We are specialized in importing finished products, like shoes, textiles, consumer electronics, household articles, tools, machines. But we are also familiar with food logistics and can offer you certified solutions within the logistics group.
Shipments are made worldwide by full and consolidated containers from/to all major ports in cooperation with reputable shipping companies and NVOCCs.
We exclusively employ trained forwarding merchants. These specialists advise our customers on import and export regulations, anti-dumping duties, customs discounts and required documents even before shipment. In the 2009 training year, we trained Germany’s best apprentice. Checking of letters of credit and loading in accordance with letter of credit are a matter of course.
